If we ask you what makes you happy or what is the meaning of happiness for you, you might come up with the memories you have spent with someone special. For you, happiness is being with that someone while others might say that happiness lies within.
Nevertheless, happiness is much more than you think.
Happiness according to a speaker, researcher and author – Shawn Achor
If you can raise somebody’s level of positivity in the present, then their brains experience what we now call a happiness advantage. When your brain is positive it performs significantly better than when it is negative, neutral, or stressed. Your intelligence, creativity, and energy levels rise.
Happiness can affect your productivity, as it has a direct impact on the brain. When you are happy, your productivity increases by 31%. This will give you an advantage at your workplace.
Do this 5-step exercise to enhance your happiness, which will hardly take 23 minutes of your daily routine.
1. Pen down three things, you are grateful for?
As per science, one of the best ways to feel better is to express gratitude. So, very first thing you have to do in the morning is to write down three things that you are grateful for. For long term effect, do this exercise for 21 days. It will make you more optimistic, and you will be able to focus more on positive things in your life.
2. Write one Positive experience of your life
Next thing you have to do is to write down in detail about one positive experience you had in your life every day. Thus, your brain will get to know the importance of positivity in your life. You can also reprogram it by repeating this exercise for 21 days.
3. Indulge yourself in Cardio Activities
All of us want to stay fit, but no one wants to hit the gym. But for the happier life, it is necessary to indulge yourself in good cardio activities for 15 minutes daily. If you don’t want to do hardcore cardio activities for some or the other reasons, then you can also opt for alternatives like walking in the park or dancing at your favorite songs for at least 15 minutes.
Through these activities, your brain will understand that “my behavior matters” and you will remain positive throughout the daily activities.
4. Pay attention to your breath for 2 minutes
Observe your breath for two minutes and see how it goes in and out. Meditation improves your happiness and decreases the stress level. By focusing on your breath, your brain will feel relaxed, as it will be focusing on one thing at a time.
5. Write kind words for family and friends
This is the most important part of the whole exercise. Do you remember the last time when you got a “Thank you” note or text from your family members or a friend? No matter how bad your day was, those words lighted up your day and put a smile on your face. Imagine the kind of happiness you can give to someone else by such words.
Write a few positive words for your family, colleagues, and friends and see how they affect them in positive ways.
Therefore, all you need to do is to take out 23 minutes of your daily routine and follow these morning rituals and say hello to “Happier You.”
