1. DO Clean Underarms
Before waxing or shaving, use mild soap and water to wash your underarm. As compared to other body parts, our underarms produce more sweat. Hence, cleaning will decrease odour from your underarms. If possible, take a bath beforehand.
2. DON’T Forget To Scrub
This will help in removing impurities and dirt and also opens up pores of your hair. Besides, it will make the process less painful.
One effective DIY scrub for the same: Make a mixture of honey, sugar, and lemon juice and apply it on your underarms. This will lighten the darker area and hydrate your skin.
3. Do Focus On Dryness
In sweaty underarms, waxing is not possible. Therefore, make sure that they are dry before you go for waxing. You can apply talcum powder to dry them just like your parlor lady does.
Don’t shave in dry armpits as it can lead to irritation. In fact, shave your underarms before getting out of the shower when your armpits are hydrated.
4. DO Stretch Your Hand Up Fully
Don’t lift your arm only halfway up, as small hair in the armpits can be missed. So, stretch your arm above your head to wax or shave your hair properly.
5. DO Take A Painkiller
Sometimes, waxing your underarms can hurt badly. If you can’t take it or your skin is too sensitive to bear the pain, then 30 minutes before going for waxing, take a painkiller.
6. DO Wax/Shave In The Right Direction
If you have sensitive skin, waxing/shaving in the wrong direction can cause irritation. Always shave in the same direction of growth. Don’t pull the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth, as your hair will not remove completely if you do so.
7. DON’T Forget To Rinse The Blade After Every Stroke
You can shave your armpits effectively when your razor is clean. However, with each and every stroke, there is dead skin, dirty hair, and bacteria on the blade. This can block the sharpness of the razor. So, before using the razor again, just rinse it in the water.
8. Go Over The Same Patch Again And Again
If you are applying wax to clean underarms, do it in small patches. Besides, if you are using the razor for the same, do it in short strokes. Don’t go over the same area again and again, as it can lead to irritation and redness in your armpits.
9. DON’T Ignore The Aftercare
To soothe the waxed/shaved area, immediately apply Aloe Vera gel, ice or a cooling moisturizer. It can help prevent the annoying growth of small hair.
10. DO Wear Loose Clothes
Wear loose clothes to avoid chafing stick and irritation after waxing/shaving. If possible, avoid antiperspirants and deodorants for two days.
