You are working on your laptop, and you end up spilling a cup of water all over it. What will you do now? It’s seeping into your keyboard and your motherboard. It’s everywhere.
But, don’t panic. Just follow these four simple steps, and you’ll be good to go.
1. Unplug your laptop immediately
This step will help prevent any electrical damage. If your machine has a removable battery, take it out. If not, just shut it down.
2. Turn it upside down
Turning it upside down will drain out the water. Besides, it will stop it from going inside the machine.
3. Blot Blot Blot!
If you are outside, grab napkins and start blotting the water as much as you can. However, paper products could result in residue and lint. So instead, grab a handkerchief or your scarf and start gently sponge up the keys.
4. Air dry
DO NOT USE A HAIR DRYER
Although this idea may seem time-effective, it will stir up dust and send it into the now-sticky environment. Instead, gently shake your laptop to get more water out. Then let your machine air-dry for as long as possible (48 hours is ideal). Afterwards, make sure it’s completely dry.
